About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Accountant with expertise in using either MYOB or Xero accounting software and a strong background in Australian bookkeeping. The ideal candidate will have a thorough understanding of Australian accounting principles and tax regulations. They will be responsible for maintaining accurate financial records, preparing financial statements, and ensuring compliance with Australian accounting standards. Proficiency in using either MYOB or Xero, along with Australian bookkeeping experience, is essential for this role.

 

Responsibilities:

 

  • Australian Bookkeeping: Apply in-depth knowledge of Australian bookkeeping practices and regulations to maintain accurate financial records. This includes recording financial transactions, managing accounts payable and receivable, and reconciling accounts with bank statements.
  • Financial Record Keeping: Utilize MYOB or Xero software to accurately record and categorize financial transactions according to Australian accounting standards. Ensure data integrity and compliance with applicable laws and regulations.
  • Financial Reporting: Prepare financial statements, including balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow statements, in compliance with Australian accounting principles. Generate accurate and timely financial reports for management, stakeholders, and regulatory authorities.
  • Tax Compliance: Ensure compliance with Australian tax laws and regulations. Prepare and submit tax returns, including BAS/GST, payroll tax, and income tax, using MYOB or Xero. Stay updated on changes in tax legislation and adapt financial records accordingly
  • Budgeting and Forecasting: Collaborate with stakeholders to develop budgets and financial forecasts aligned with Australian accounting standards. Monitor actual performance against budgeted targets and provide insights on financial variances.
  • Financial Analysis: Conduct financial analysis to identify trends, patterns, and areas for improvement. Provide recommendations to optimize financial performance and support strategic decision-making.
  • Client/Customer Support: Interact with clients or internal stakeholders to address accounting-related inquiries and provide financial guidance. Offer training and support to colleagues on MYOB or Xero usage and Australian bookkeeping practices.
  • Compliance and Audit: Assist with internal and external audits, ensuring compliance with Australian accounting standards and regulations. Collaborate with auditors to provide required documentation and address audit queries.
  • Process Improvement: Identify opportunities for streamlining accounting processes and implementing best practices specific to Australian bookkeeping requirements. Propose and implement system enhancements to enhance efficiency, accuracy, and compliance.

 

Qualifications and Skills:

 

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • Proven experience as an Accountant, specifically with Australian bookkeeping background.
  • In-depth knowledge of Australian accounting principles, practices, and tax regulations.
  • Strong understanding of Australian GST/BAS requirements.
  • Proficiency in using MYOB or Xero accounting software.
  • Familiarity with other accounting software and MS Office Suite.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and meet deadlines.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Professional certifications such as CPA or CA are a plus.
